Item Actividad del virus de la encefalitis equina venezolana en el norte de Colombia, abril y mayo de 1983(s.d.)Venezuelan equine encephaltis (VEE) virus was isolated from sentinel hamsters exposed in the Rio de Oro region of Colombia, in the Lake Maracaibo drainage area near the border with Venezuela, in 1983-13 years after the first strain was isolated from the region near Tibu. Hydroxylapatite elution profiles of three isolates from the Rio de Oro region were typical of enzootic strains. Relative abundance data and past isolations suggest that culex (Melanoconion) pedroi is a probable enxootic vector at this focus. The virus was no isolated from forests near Santa Marta and Magangue in the Rio Magdalena drainage area in 1983-9 and 16 years, respectively, after the last previous isolations in those areas. However, equine animals 2 to 10 years of age and humans 25 to 67 years of age living near the Magangue field study area were positive for VEE virus-specific neutralizing antibodiesItem Manadas de caballos como centinelas para detectar la actividad del virus de la encefalitis equina venezolana en Nicaragua, 1977(s.d.)Los sueros tomados de 93 caballos en ranchos nicaragüenses y las pruebas serológicas que se practicaron para detectar en ellos la presencia de anticuerpos del virus de la encefalitis equina venezolana (EEV), muestran que tales caballos pueden servir de centinelas baratos y eficaces para detectar la actividad de ese virus (AU)Item Epidemiological Alert, Update on SARS, Outbreaks of Jungle Yellow Fever and Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis in Colombia, West Nile Virus—First Human Case in United States of America (10 July 2003)(PAHO, 2003)The last reported probable case in Taiwan, and in the world was detected and isolated on 15 June. Two consecutive 10-day incubation periods have now passed with no further cases detected. This achievement means that all know chains of person-to-person transmission of the SARS virus have now been broken. On July 5th, WHO has removed Taiwan from the list of areas with recent local transmission of SARS. Nevertheless, WHO continues to receive rumors of possible cases, which indicates that surveillance systems are working well. To date, all recently reported possible cases have been aggressively investigated and determined to have other causes.
