Item Guidelines for care of critically ill adult patients with COVID-19 in the Americas. Short version, v.2, 29 July 2020(PAHO, 2020)These clinical practice guidelines (short version) were developed in order to provide recommendations for the management of critically ill adult patients with COVID-19 treated in intensive care units (ICUs). These clinical practice guidelines provide evidence-informed recommendations for identifying markers and mortality risk factors in critically ill patients, as well as infection control, sample collection, supportive care (respiratory and hemodynamic), pharmacological treatment, early rehabilitation, diagnostic imaging use, prevention of complications, and discharge requirements. The recommendations are for all healthcare staff who deal with patients in emergency departments and ICUs. Summary, version 3(PAHO, 2021)This publication provides recommendations for the management of critically ill adult patients with COVID-19 being treated in intensive care units (ICUs) in the Americas. These clinical practice guidelines provide evidence-informed recommendations for identifying markers and mortality risk factors in critically ill patients, as well as infection control, sample collection, supportive care (respiratory and hemodynamic), pharmacological treatment, early rehabilitation, diagnostic imaging use, prevention of complications, and discharge requirements. The recommendations are for all health care staff caring for patients in emergency departments and ICUs. These guidelines are also intended for use by decisionmakers and government entities involved in the management of patients with COVID-19 in ICUs in the Region of the Americas. This publication is the result of a rapid guideline development process. Base on the GRADE methodology, the recommendations reflect published evidence as at the date of inclusion in the document. The Pan American Health Organization will periodically update the applicable recommendations.Item Síntesis de evidencia y recomendaciones: Guía para el cuidado de pacientes adultos críticos con COVID-19 en las Américas(2021)[RESUMEN]. Introducción. La Organización Mundial de la Salud declaró en el 2020 la pandemia de la enfermedad por el coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19, por su sigla en inglés), causada por el coronavirus de tipo del síndrome respiratorio agudo grave (SARS-CoV-2, por su sigla en inglés) y que se ha extendido alrededor del mundo. Aproximadamente 5% de los pacientes infectados son críticos y requieren admisión a la unidad de cuidado intensivo (UCI). En estos pacientes, la COVID-19 puede estar complicada con un síndrome de dificultad respiratoria aguda, choque séptico y falla multiorgánica, que incluye la falla renal y cardíaca. Objetivo. Sintetizar las recomendaciones incluidas en la Guía para el cuidado de pacientes adultos críticos con COVID-19 en las Américas, versión 3 publicada por la Organización Panamericana de la Salud en 2021, con el fin de orientar el manejo de pacientes adultos críticos con COVID-19 atendidos en la UCI y abordar aspectos clave de su implementación. Métodos. Se llevó a cabo una síntesis de la guía y sus recomendaciones. Además, se realizó una búsqueda sistemática en Pubmed, Lilacs, Health Systems Evidence, Epistemonikos y literatura gris de estudios desarrollados en la Región de las Américas con el fin de identificar barreras, facilitadores y estrategias de implementación. Resultados. Se presentan 43 recomendaciones que abordan la identificación de marcadores y factores de riesgo de mortalidad, prevención y control de infecciones, recolección de muestras, cuidado de soporte (ventilatorio y hemodinámico), tratamiento farmacológico, rehabilitación temprana, uso de estudios por imágenes, prevención de complicaciones y criterios de egreso de los pacientes críticos con COVID-19. Conclusiones. Las recomendaciones buscan proveer el conocimiento sobre el manejo de pacientes críticos con COVID-19 y ofrecer consideraciones para su implementación en la Región.Item Guidelines for the Care of Adult Patients with Severe or Critical COVID-19 in the Americas. Abridged version, 4th edition(PAHO, 2023)This fourth edition of the abbreviated version of the Guidelines for the Care of Patients with Severe or Critical COVID-19 in the Americas has been prepared with the aim of facilitating consultation of the recommendations for the management of patients treated in intensive care units in the Region of the Americas. It offers evidence-based recommendations for the identification of markers and risk factors for mortality, infection control, sample collection, patient care (ventilatory and hemodynamic), drug treatment, early rehabilitation, use of diagnostic images, the prevention of complications and the discharge criteria. The recommendations are addressed to all health personnel who care for patients in emergency services and intensive care units, as well as decision-makers and members of government entities related to the management of patients with COVID-19 in the Region of the Americas.Item Essential Medicines List for Management of Patients Admitted to Intensive Care Units with Suspected or Confirmed COVID-19 Diagnosis, 24 March 2020(PAHO, 2020)This document presents an essential medicines list (EML) to manage patients in intensive care units (ICUs) with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis, which includes active ingredients with dosage form and concentration, and are preferably in the WHO Model Lists of Essential Medicines 2019; based on clinical presentations and symptoms identified and prioritized in World Health Organization (WHO) and Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) guidelines and the evidence presented in these guidelines.
